Jazz Fest 2010
Introducing The Loudhorns
For those who think that Nashville, Tennessee, is
solely entrenched within the Country Music and
Americana realm, you would be dead wrong. The
Loudhorns offer electrifying live performances
and a mix of jazz classic, pop covers and original
songs.
Various members have worked with Garth Brooks,
Elton John, Paul Simon, Maynard Ferguson,
Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Randy Brecker,
and Larry Carlton to complement a who's who list.
The eleven-piece group plays selections from
Ferguson's repertoire, including a disciplined but
garrulous spin on Chick Corea's "La Fiesta."
They also delve into some jazz-rock motifs, which
is a component of the trumpeter's '70s and
beyond playlist.
The ensemble's approach consists of power-
packed arrangements, accelerated by rocketing
horn choruses and a blistering impetus. The trio
of trumpeters judiciously nails those high notes,
which, of course, is synonymous with Ferguson's
mode of execution. In addition, the musicians turn
in a snappy, jazz-funk rendition of Stevie
Wonder's "I Wish," featuring the hornists' perky
accents and piercing crescendos.
Trombonists Barry Green and Roy Agee take the
lead atop a high-impact swing vamp on
"Superbone Meets the Badman." It is not about
screaming notes and wayward abandon—on the
contrary, it is an astutely engineered effort that
packs a mighty wallop amid the proper variances
in pitch and tempo.
Personnel: Steve Patrick: trumpet, flugelhorn;
Vinnie Ciesielski: trumpet, flugelhorn; Mike
Casteel: trumpet, flugelhorn; Erin Horner: French
horn; Barry Green: trombone; Roy Agee:
trombone; Joe Murphy: tuba; Ron Gilmore:
keyboards; Adam Agati: guitar; Tony Nagy: bass;
Jason Waters: drums.

President's Letter
Happy New Year!
We hope you are staying warm and are looking
forward to of all of the wonderful upcoming events that
our students are involved with.
The Solo and Ensemble contest is Feb 13th. The
Jazz Fest is scheduled for Feb 27th. Both days will
be filled with student performances from area high
schools. The Hudson jazz bands will perform during
the day at the Jazz Fest. The evening will conclude
with a concert featuring The Loud Horns. Our own
Jazz I will open the show. Purchase your tickets
today. This is sure to be a great concert.
The Orchestra and Choir Holiday Concerts were
wonderful. The band dazzled the Toronto crowd at
the halftime show for the Bills and Jets football game.
All of our music groups are now preparing for the
upcoming February and March concerts. Be sure to
check out the calendar for upcoming concerts, plays,
and performances.
Thank you to the many volunteers who made the
Tennessee trip fundraising efforts successful.
Special thanks to Rick and Joan Byers for chairing
the fruit sale and all those who purchased the
goodies. A cookie dough fundraiser is now underway
to raise more funds for the trip. See inside for more
details.
The Hudson High School Music Association (HHSMA)
meetings are usually scheduled for the second
Tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm in the choir
room. Every music student parent is invited to come.
These meetings are an excellent way to stay
informed. Of course, you are always welcome to
contact us if you need information, have concerns or
want to volunteer.
