Hudson Swing Choir to NYC

The Hudson High School Swing Choir will travel to New York City
April 26-29  to participate in the Heritage  Festival Choral
performance at Carnegie Hall.  Twenty seven HHS student singers
have been preparing to sing in a mass choir of 300 voices from all
over the United States.  The concert will be  under the leadership of
accomplished guest conductor,  Eph Ehly.   In addition to New York
rehearsals for  the concert at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, April 28th,
the group will see a Broadway show, sight see and attend Mass at
St Patrick’s.

“The trip came about with the Swing Choir submitting a recording to
the festival committee as their audition/ petition to be accepted for
the mass choir.  Once we were accepted the students and parents
geared into fundraising mode. Perhaps you have heard the Q & A:
How do you get to Carnegie Hall?.....Practice, practice, practice!  I
think the second portion of that answer is …….Fundraise, fundraise,
fundraise!  Each family has contributed   many talents toward the
financial demands of this trip.  We have held raffles, bake sales,
holiday caroling, donations for and from Yoga Lounge , Marcelita’s
Fiesta night, and more.”

As the Swing Choir learns the  literature, selected by Dr. Ehly, the
group has performed it for their Hudson Choir concerts.  “I have
found the repertoire to be challenging and  varied.  We have all
thoroughly enjoyed learning the pieces and are very anxious to hear
them performed with the large group in New York.”  While other
students have been sleeping in, the chamber students have been
diligently attending extra rehearsals on Wednesday mornings in
preparation for the trip.

“This is a once in a lifetime experience for the students and I am
glad that I could be a part of process”
Mrs. Amy Foulkes, Director Choral Activities
